About

Charles O. Eaton is a British painter working from his studio in Wimbledon, South London. His practice spans refined, observational portraiture and expressive, impressionistic landscapes, both united by an interest in light, atmosphere, and the emotional charge of place.

His early interest in drawing and painting was recognised with a scholarship to Charterhouse School, Surrey. He went on to study at the University of the Arts London and Newcastle University, completing a BA in Fine Art in 2017, before undertaking further classical training at the Charles Cecil Studios in Florence.

Charles’s portraiture is built on with limited palette, drawing on historic methods and materials while maintaining a contemporary sensitivity. His aim is not only to achieve likeness, but to convey the weight and presence of the subject.

In contrast, his landscapes — influenced strongly by his time spent in Italy, particularly in the Dolomites — are more painterly and intuitive. These works employ gestural marks, impasto, and a limited but responsive palette to capture shifting light, texture, and the fleeting nature of a place.
